U.S. Attorney General Attends Opening of Re-Entry Program

Attorney General Eric Holder and White House Drug Control Policy Director, Gil Kerlikowske, celebrated women re-entering society. The two national leaders, alongside local officials, celebrated the grand opening of The Next Door "Release Center" in Chattanooga.

The housing and services center will help up to 30 currently incarcerated female offenders at a time.

Angela Miller is one of those women. She's been behind bars a total of three years for drug abuse. She's looking forward to her second chance.

"I had been to several halfway houses and decided on the Next Door because it's more spiritual-based than religious-based," Miller said. "They're giving me what I need to live clean and sober."

The center offers case management services along with job help, life skills, therapy and substance abuse counseling. Some of the funding for The Next Door comes from a grant that's supported by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
