Hamilton County Schools Get ''Average'' Grades
The 2009 report card for Hamilton County schools is in.
In a news conference held today, Superintendent Jim Scales says the District is receiving C's in Academic Achievement and C's in student academic progress.
“This was a tough year around the district,” said Superintendent Dr. Jim Scales. “We had successes this year in attendance and high school scores, but we still face many challenges including our graduation rate, ACT scores, dropout rates and higher state standards.”
The way the scores were calibrated changed dramatically in 2009.
Students in grades 3 thru 8 are measured based on reading and math scores from the state standardized test, while high school achievement is based on the Gateway Exams in English, Algebra and Biology.
