Fire Breaks out in Hixson Movie Theater

August 18, 2007 - 10:49 PM

Fire forces almost one thousand people in the Hixson Movie theater to evacuate. Chattanooga Fire Department spokeman Bruce Garner tells us the fire alarms and sprinkler systems went off in the Carmike Cinemas building. When firefighters arrived on the scene they discovered smoke in the halls, but the sprinklers had already put the fire out and everyone had been evacuated. Garner says the theatre staff did a great job of getting everyone out and that nobody was injured. Investigators are trying to determine exactly what started the blaze, but right now it's believed that someone set a cardboard stand-up prop on fire. The manager at the theatre says that he's unsure whether or not they will be open tomorrow, as they are still assessing the damage. He did want us to tell everyone that if anybody evacuated wants a refund, they need only to bring their ticket stub to the theatre.
