Georgia Beats Lady Mocs at the Roundhouse

Successful Homecoming for Trenton's Ashley Houts

Trenton, Georgia's Ashley Houts had a successful homecoming Thursday night, leading her 16th ranked Georgia Lady Bulldogs past UTC's Lady Mocs at McKenzie Arena.

Houts, who chose to play at Georgia instead of UTC, scored her first basket at the Roundhouse four-and-a-half minutes into the game, giving Georgia a 9-2 lead.  She scored 6 points and dished out 4 assists in the first half.... but her team trailed at the break.... thanks mainly to Shanara Hollinquest and Jenaya Wade-Frey.

Hollinquest scored 16 first-half points, Wade-Frey had 12 and the Lady Mocs, who led by as many as 6 points, took a 36-33 lead into the locker room.

Houts, who scored the final 3 points in the first half, took over at the start of the second half... scoring 10 points in the first three-and-a-half minutes as the Lady Bulldogs regained the lead... a lead that just kept growing as the Lady Mocs never could find their shooting touch.

Hollinquest scored only 4 second-half points, Wade-Frey only 3.

Houts meanwhile, kept lighting it up... as did Jasmine James, who led all scorers with 25 points... Ashley had 21 in her homecoming... which the Lady Bulldogs won... 74-57.

Georgia is now 2-0.  The Lady Mocs, now 1-2, will play at Kentucky on Sunday.
