Murfreesboro native Marine killed in vehicle crash
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - A young U.S. Marine who grew up in Murfreesboro has been killed in a vehicle crash at a military post in California.
A news release from Camp Pendleton said 20-year-old Cpl. Justin K. Lewter was killed Nov. 4.
Lewter's father, Jimmy Lewter, told The Daily News Journal of Murfreesboro he was told of his son's death when Marines came to his door late on Nov. 4. The elder Lewter now lives in Ethridge.
Jimmy Lewter said his son was driving his personal car when it collided with a Humvee on base.
Justin Lewter graduated from Holloway High School in 2007. His father said the Marine visited him and his mother, Theresa Cox Lewter of Murfreesboro, in September and was set to begin training for deployment to Afghanistan after the first of the year. He had served a previous tour in Iraq.
