TDOT's weekly construction report for Region Two

Lane closure information is provided to the Tennessee Department of Transportation by the contractors. Unless otherwise stated, all times listed are Eastern.

Should unforeseen circumstances or weather prevent any of this work from being performed, it will be rescheduled to take place as soon as possible.

Bradley County

  • ****I-75 Exit 20 Bridge Repair at the I-75 / U.S. 64 Junction (U.S. 74, SR-311) Work on this project is underway. Motorists traveling on the APD-40, U.S 74 (SR-311) bridge over I 75 at Exit 20 should expect delays in this area. Once work begins, the contractor will reduce the two lanes on the bridge to one 11-foot wide lane to perform deck repair on the structure. During construction, traffic on the bridge will be controlled by traffic lights on both ends of the bridge. This work could also affect the northbound and southbound I-75 Exit 20 off ramps. Motorists are advised to slow down, be alert for changing traffic conditions, and expect delays, particularly during the afternoon hours. Wide or oversized loads should consider an alternate route. Should unforeseen circumstances or weather prevent any of this work from being performed, it will be rescheduled to take place as soon as possible. Estimated completion date is June 2008. Bradley / McMinn County

  • I-75 Renovation of the Fog Detection System (from near mm 24 to near mm 45) Work on this project continues. The contractor will have intermittent short-term shoulder closures on I-75 North and South throughout this report period between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to perform work on the fog detection system. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is August 2008. (TransCore ITS, LLC/CG).


Clay County

  • SR-151 Construction of Small Drainage Structure(lm 0.11) Work on this project is underway. Traffic is reduced to one lane by the use of a temporary traffic signal system. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is October 2008. (Highways, Inc./SC).

Cumberland County

  • SR-419 Bridge Repair Over Byrds Creek and Lake (lm 0.41) The Cumberland Mountain State Park bridge will have one lane closed for construction activities. Traffic will be flagged between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is June 2008. (Mid-State Construction /DB).

  • ****SR-101 (Peavine Road) Bridge and Approaches over I-40 (mm 322) Work continues on this project. Intermittent lane stoppages may occur on Peavine Road due to work within close proximity to the roadway. The median of I-40 both eastbound and westbound will be closed with portable barrier rail for the duration of the project. The contractor will have nighttime lane closures and rolling road blocks beginning Monday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 3 from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following morning to set beams for phase 1 of the Peavine Road Bridge. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is May 2009. (Highways, Inc./DB).

  • ****I-40 Resurfacing from Ozone Bridges (mm 333) to Roane County Line (mm 340) Work has begun on this project. The contractor will have lane closures Thursday, May 29 and Sunday June 1 through Thursday, June 5 from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following morning to perform cold planing and resurfacing operations. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is June 2008. (Highways, Inc./DB).

Fentress County

  • U.S. 127 (SR-28) Grading, Drainage, and Paving beginning at 0.2 miles north of Big Dry Creek and extending to 1.7 miles north of Jamestown Work on this project is underway. The contractor is currently performing grading operations. The contractor is using a flagging operation in order to navigate construction equipment through the project. Motorists should be alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated project completion date is May 2010. (Wright Brothers Cost. Co., Inc. /SC).

  • Jonesville Road - Construction of Concrete Slab Bridge, including Grading, Drainage and Paving, over Mill Creek (lm 14.22) Work on this project is underway. Traffic has been detoured onto Catfish Farm Road and will remain detoured for the duration of the project. Motorists should be alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated project completion date is August 2008. (J & M, Inc./GW).

  • SR-52 Construction of Bridge Over Big Indian Creek (lm 1.45) Work on this project is underway. A temporary signal system will be in operation for the duration of the project maintaining one lane of traffic through the work zone. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is May 2009. (Wright Brothers Construction, Inc./SC).

Grundy County

  • SR-56 (Main Street) Box Bridge Construction, Grading, Drainage, and Paving on over Piney Creek (lm 20.56) Work on this project is underway. The contractor is currently working on the construction of the box bridge. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is June 2008. (Dement Construction Company, LLC/ CB).

Hamilton County

  • ****I-75 Widening Project from 1.1 miles south of Lee Hwy. (SR-2/ U.S. 11) to 1.2 miles north of Lee Hwy. (SR-2/ U.S. 11). Work on this project continues. Here is the major work for this week:
    The contractor will have lane closures on I-75 northbound and southbound from mm 10 - mm 12 on Thursday, May 29 and Wednesday, June 4 from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning to set new barrier rail and realign existing barrier rail. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times.
    The contractor will have lane closures on Hilltop Road, Snow Hill Road, and Hunter Road beginning Thursday, May 29 through Wednesday, June 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to install new utilities. However, the contractor must move off the roadway from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day during the shift change at Miller Industries.
    Old Lee Highway in this area will remain closed until the new bridge and approaches are complete, which is now scheduled to take place by mid-August 2008. Access to all businesses in the area will be maintained. Detours are posted. The rest area located at the end of the project on I-75 South is now closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is December 2010. (Bell & Associates Construction/LF).

  • ****I-24 Bridge Repainting (mm 181.0 to 183.0) - Work on this project continues. During this report period, the contractor will implement various lane closures to perform painting operations.
    Nighttime closures: Interstate lane closures will occur in the project area at nighttime between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. the following morning on I-24 West.
    At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times when work is being performed on I-24.
    Daytime closures:
    During this report period, the contractor will also have bridge and shoulder closures that will occur at various times between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The contractor will have right shoulder closures on an as-needed basis on I-24 eastbound and westbound for two overpass bridges South Seminole Road (mm 182) and Old Ringgold Road (mm 183).
    The contractor will also have intermittent lane closures using flaggers on the bridges over I-24 in order to perform the painting operation. Starting Friday May 30 the contractor will be working on the South Crest Road Bridge and on the South Seminole Road Bridge.
    When complete, the contractor will start on the Old Ringgold Road Bridge. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is July 2008 (Seminole Equipment, Inc. / LF).

  • Shallowford Road Widening Project, From West of Mark Lane to West of Center Street Work on this project continues. The contractor will have flagging operations in place beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day in order to route traffic around construction activity. The right turn lane (southbound) on Lee Highway at the SunTrust Bank corner is closed to accommodate Phase 1 construction. The lane will be blocked off with portable barrier rail for the duration of this phase. Traffic shifts have been set in place to route traffic around construction activities in some areas. Please be advised and take caution when traveling through this area. Motorists are also cautioned to observe the 35-m.p.h. speed limit throughout the construction zone. Due problems with speeding in this area, both state troopers and local police have increased enforcement. Motorists who must travel through this area are asked to be patient and to stay alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is October 2008. (Greenstar, LLC/LF).

  • Ashland Terrace Widening Project, From Knollwood Drive to West of Norcross Road Work on this project continues. Daily flagging operations will be set in place in order to route traffic around construction activities beginning from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional lane closures may be needed to allow the contractor to safely relocate utilities and install drainage structures. The contractor will close Highland Drive and Crestview Lane for the report period. Detours will be posted. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions and find alternative routes. Estimated completion date is December 2008. (Talley Construction Co., Inc./CG).

Jackson County

  • SR-151 - Construction of Small Drainage Structure (lm 2.71) Work on this project is underway. A temporary signal system will be in operation for the duration of the project for maintaining one lane of traffic through work zone. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is June 2008. (Eatherly Group, Inc./GW)

Lincoln County

  • U.S. 64 Grading, Drainage, Construction of Concrete Box Bridges, and Paving beginning 0.250 miles east of SR-275 (Flintville Rd.) and extending to 0.152 miles east of the Lincoln County/Franklin County Line. Work on this project is underway. The contractor will have lane shifts around construction area. Motorists should use caution and be alert while traveling through the construction zone. Estimated completion date is July 2010. (Highways, Inc./CB).

Marion County

  • ****I-24 Resurfacing from the Grundy County Line (mm 133) to Cave Cove Creek (mm 140) Work on this project is underway. There are no lane closures scheduled at this time, but the contactor will have the truck weigh station closed in order to perform resurfacing work. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is July 2008. (Rogers Group, Inc/ KP).

McMinn County

  • ****I-75 Resurfacing beginning at mm 45 to Monroe County Line (mm 59) Work on this project will begin Tuesday, May 27 and continue throughout this report period. The contractor will have lane closures northbound and southbound from 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning in order to perform milling and paving operations. The speed limit will be lowered to 60 mph in the work zone. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is August 2008. Meigs County

  • SR-58 Bridge Construction Over Hiwassee River (lm 5.22) The contractor has completed work on this project. Once final inspection has been performed there may be some flagging operations done to correct punchlist items. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is June 2008. (J & M, Inc./GF).

  • SR-58 Construction of a Small Drainage Structure, including Grading, Drainage and Paving (lm 17.18) Work on this project is underway. The contactor may have some flagging operations in place to facilitate construction activities. Motorist should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is June 2008. (Greenstar, LLC. GF).

Polk County

  • ****SR-68 Bridge Construction over the Tennessee Overhill Heritage Association Railroad (lm 6.22) Work on this project is complete pending final inspection. Estimated completion date is June 2008. (Mid-State Construction Company, Inc./GF).

  • ****U.S. 64 (SR-40) Grading, Drainage, and Paving at Mac Point Recreation Area All major items have been completed with the exception of guardrail items. Motorists should use caution and be alert while traveling through the construction zone. Estimated completion date is June 2008 (Greenstar, LLC/GF).

  • SR-68 Grading Drainage, and Small Structure Repair (lm 6.55) Work on this project is underway. The contractor has begun replacement of the box culvert. Motorists should use caution and be alert while traveling through the construction zone. Estimated completion date is September 2008. (Greenstar, LLC/GF).

Putnam County

  • SR135 Resurfacing from 0.04 miles North of the I-40 ramps (lm 8.53) to the junction at W. Stevens St. (lm 10.16) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will have lane closures throughout this period in order to perform resurfacing operation. Temporary lane closure and flaggers will be used to route traffic through the area. Motorists should be alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated project completion date is July 2008. (LoJac, Inc./GW).

Rhea County

  • ****SR-29 Widening Project from SR-68 Junction to Spring City North City Limits The city portion of the project is open to four lanes of traffic. The contractor will have lane closures in order to perform paving operation. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is July 2010. (Charles Blalock & Sons/DB).

  • SR-29 Resurfacing Project from 0.26 miles north of Macedonia Road (l.m. 28.16) to the bridge over Whites Creek l.m. 31.78) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will use temporary lane closures as needed for pavement marking, guardrail and resurfacing work. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during working hours. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2008. (Strawser, Inc./GW)

Warren County

  • SR-1 Widening Project from East of Spring Valley to McMinnville Work on this project is underway. The contractor is currently performing grading, drainage, and utility work. Flagging operations and detours will be set in place in order to route traffic around construction activity. Motorists should be alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated project completion date is July 2008. (Highways, Inc./BH).

White County

  • SR-111 Resurfacing Project from the junction of Shady Oak Road (l.m. 4.20) to the junction of Fred Hill Road (l.m. 7.31) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will use temporary lane closures as needed for pavement marking, guardrail and resurfacing work. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during working hours. Motorists should be alert for construction traffic entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated project completion date is September 2008. (Strawser, Inc./GW)
