Army Recruiters Caught Lying

July 24, 2007 - 11:54 AM

An Army spokesman says the service branch has disciplined four recruiters, caught on tape by a Nashville T-V station as they encouraged potential recruits to lie.

W-T-V-F T-V sent hidden cameras in with people who told recruiters they had past mental health issues. Four recruiters were recorded advising the potential recruits to lie about it so they could get into the Army.

Army spokesman Lee Elder said yesterday the four were found to have committed a recruiting impropriety. Elder said one of the recruiters has been relieved of his post and sent back to regular Army duty. Two others got "General Officer Letters" of reprimand. The fourth received a less-serious "letter of concern."

Elder said privacy rules prohibit saying which recruiter received what discipline.
