Teen Falls Victim of Third Homicide in Two Days
Officers have spent most of the day trying to control the crowd in Harriet Tubman...that was full of emotion from neighbors, friends and family members for a young man that died at just 17 years old.
Hundreds of people filled the streets of Harriet Tubman Apartments this afternoon. We were there as police controlled the crowd of neighbors and family members mourning Calloway who was killed in broad daylight.
These are the victim's older sister and cousins. They say he was 17 year old Carlton Calloway.
"He would give the shirt off his back if he had too. At 17. And somebody done took his life," says sister Shaquita Tarpkin and cousin Raven Glenn.
Police say it was around noon, when they got called to Southern Street for a shooting.
When they arrived they found the 17 year old dead in the living room of this home. Detectives believe he ran there after he was severely injured down the street, but as of Sunday afternoon, they couldn't tell if he'd been shot or stabbed.
"The thing about it, they didn't just take his life, but my momma's life and everybody else in our family," says the victim's sister and cousins.
Family members say the victim's mother had to be rushed to the hospital due to the stress. Officers, canvassed the block long crime scene looking for the person who did this, and why.
"We do know what has caused it yet, but we do know that its gang related at this time," says Sergeant David Gibb.
However, family says, this is not gang related but a senseless crime, that has ruined their lives.
"My brother is not in a gang. It's not gang related. I know that from the bottom of my heart. Everyone loves him. Everyone loves carlton and I know everyone do that's why they are out here. He wasn't in a gang, just a good boy in the studio," says sisters and cousins.
"It's like 5 days before Christmas and he's gone. We aint finna have a good Christmas," says Quartney Careathers, the victim's cousin.
Earlier this afternoon police say they went to the house of someone they thought was a main suspect, but that turned out to be the wrong person.
As of Sunday evening they don't have anyone in custody.
