East Ridge Student Dies

Hamilton County school officials have announced that a female East Ridge High School student died Tuesday afternoon around 3:30.

It is believed the 17-year-old student was running laps while taking part in supervised JROTC activities at school when she collapsed. We're told that coaches and staff started CPR as soon as she collapsed and continued once paramedics arrived.

She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Her identity is not being released at this time. However Perry Vandergriff, a leader in the East Ridge High School color guard organization told NewsChannel 9, “She was an absolutely pleasant young lady. It was her first year in the color guard organization under me. I saw her at 10:30 this morning and she went bouncing out the door and that’s the last time I ever saw her.”
