the tuskeege airmen and buffalo soldiers were highly trained, african american military.....have you heard of the MONTFORD POINT MARINE'S
They're just as trained & they are african american.......in 1942 - Pres. Franklin D Roosevelt established a presidential directive giving african american's an opportunity to be recruited into the marine corps..
these marine recruits were segregated and assigned to basic training at montford point camp---Conditions were less than hospitable...
I recently spoke with willie haslerig a citizen of walker county ga., who served from may 4, 1945 to june 20, 1946........
before closing its gates in 1949 montford point camp had trained approx 20-thou men
In june of 2012 - the congress of the united states honored the montford point marines with a congressional gold medal....and there will be a special ceremony honoring "mr willie" in the near future and we will be there to cover this special event
