Pedestrian Hit By Two Cars
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A pedestrian in Walker County is hit by not one car but two and then rushed to the hospital.
Witnesses say the sixty-three year old woman could have easily been killed during this accident. It's an accident that State Troopers tell us occurred at a dangerous intersection, but they say this accident could have been prevented.
Bright police lights flash on the corner of Chickamauga Avenue and Lakeview Drive in Rossville. Witnesses tell us this scene unfolded after an elderly woman stepped into oncoming traffic and was struck by a car.
"He hit her, she went up over the car, landed on Chickamauga Avenue and the pick up truck behind the car ran over her," Annette Jackson says.
Jackson tells us she was sitting at the intersection when the accident occurred.
"I thought there was no way she could be alive but she was when I pulled up to block the traffic I went over to her and I could see that she was breathing and there just happened to be a paramedic coming up Chickamauga Avenue and he got out and stabilized her neck," Jackson says.
An ambulance rushed the woman to Erlanger while Georgia State Troopers tried to figure out exactly what caused the accident.
Troopers tell us the light was green when this woman was crossing the street and they tell us paying attention to crossing signals can save your life.
For Jackson this accident signaled the dangers that pedestrians encounter when they decide to cross a busy street in a split second.
"I was just petrified, I've never seen a body fly through the air and then when the truck ran over her it was terrible," Jackson says.
A Georgia State Trooper tells us the woman had serious injuries but was alive when they took her to Erlanger. Right now they're not releasing her name.
Troopers tell us the drivers will not be charged because the pedestrian was at fault.
