CSAS Admissions Line Has Begun
Every year parents stake their claim on coveted admissions spots on both CSAS and CSLA.
Last year, parents even camped outside, hoping to get their child's name on the list. Chava Hoffman was no exception.
"Last year, we stood in line and we were number 162 and 163. And of course we didn't get in," Hoffman said.
Hoffmans twins Jack and Lucy are young for their grade, so they went to Pre-K this year.
But, she wanted to make sure they were given the best chance to get into CSAS next year so she took matters into her own hands.
"So I wanted to make sure my kids got in. So I jump started the line a little bit early, getting them number 1 and number 2," said Hoffman.
Hoffman started the line on Saturday afternoon. By Sunday morning, she says, parents started coming out, and signing up for a shot at getting their child into next years kindergarten class. Usually the line isn't started until applications are available. Applications aren't out yet, though more than 70 people have already signed up. The school has told parents they may toss out the list all together and move to a lottery and now eager parents are concerned about their children's chances of getting in.
"As far as we know, have talked to Ms. Jetton about getting an application. And we've been told, that applications, once they're posted, then you may start the line. But you cannot start the line and be acknowledged without applications being posted," said Jennifer Herrit.
Herrit is trying to get her 4 year old daughter Waverly into kindergarten at CSAS next year.
But now, she says she's worried about the validity of the line.
"I think we're mainly upset because we don't know if the line has been acknowledged or not. We don't know if this is a true line. And there aren't applications out and available right now. So if there is a line, what are we applying for? What's the list for?" she said.
It could be the middle of the week before they find out. We have left a message for the admissions director of CSAS and CSLA but have not heard back from them about whether they plan to acknowledge the line or not.
