Town Divided Over Liquor Vote

The small North Georgia town of Chatsworth voted yes to serving liquor by the drink Tuesday.
Teresa Morrison has owned the Village for 24 years and says the reason alcohol won't be welcome is personal.

"I have a sister that has dimentia and it's from all the drugs and alcohol. I've just seen so man lives that are destroyed," says Morrison.

Even though the town already serves beer. For many, the damage liquor can do is the reason Chatsworth voters have said no year after year.

"I don't really like it because I think its putting more drunk drivers on the street. And me being a mother of one and one on the way I don't like that being the case," says Jennifer Williams.
However, this year was different, 57 percent of people said yes to serving alcohol in restaurants.

We spoke to owners at El Pueblito who say they're ready to serve Jack and James at their restaurant. And their customers are too.

"Theres so many people that drive to Tennessee get alcohol when all that money that's going there could be going to Chatsworth," says James Sudduth.

However, now that it's passed, many see a bright future in store for this little town.

Cecily Hay says, "The big restaurants arent going to come here applebees they aren't going to come here without that liquor license."

Mayor Tyson Haynes says-- city council members will now draft an ordinance to lay down the rules for restaurants that want to participate. That includes license fees and the criteria restaurants will have to meet.
Haynes says it will probably be October, before the rules are in place.
