Dalton Apartment Residents Will Be Forced To Move

Several families in Whitfield County will soon be without a home. Their apartment's power has been shut off, and a foreclosure notice is on the way.

16 families live at the apartment complex on Maddox Chapel Road, but they’ll soon be forced to move out.

“We're in shock all of us, it's crazy,” said resident Heidi Decker.

Decker moved her family from Chatsworth to Dalton, only to be sent packing just three weeks later.

“It's very frustrating, if it wasn't for my parents, I would have no place to go and I have 3 children,” she said.

Decker said the electricity went out Tuesday morning. Then, the manager came by, saying the complex was getting closed down.

“They were telling everyone the place was under foreclosure, the power was not coming back on,” Decker said.

Tenants say with no warning, they were left looking for a new home, with no power in their current home.

“My house is a mess. I had to pile all my kids in the living room last night because it was so hot. What am I going to feed them?” Decker said.

Decker showed NewsChannel 9 the lease she signed on Aug. 1, paying a $250 deposit, then her $150 rent just a few days ago.

“That they stole from all of us, that's the only thing it could have been, somebody was stealing from all of us,” Decker said.

We found others desperately calling for answers.

After an unreturned phone call, we tracked down the property managers at their home.

Delphia Neitzel wouldn't comment on camera, but we did speak with her husband on the phone.

They said about 8 families were behind on their rent bills, so there wasn't enough to pay the $5,000 electricity bill this month. They say those renters cost everyone their home.

“The worst part is not having no place to go, we are about homeless right now, starting over,” Decker said.
