Teen Killed in ATV Accident
A young man is hit and killed while riding his ATV. It happened in Bledsoe County Wednesday evening on State Highway 101, where two teenagers were riding the four wheeler . That's when the Tennessee Highway Patrol says they were struck by an oncoming SUV. Both boys were thrown out of the ATV and while one is now recovering, the other died at the scene.
Garrett Campbell says his friend, Gaury Wyatt, was like a brother. He says, "Just being friends with him, we'd always come down here and play basketball, and know there's no one to play basketball with, he was the life of the school."
A life that was taken Wednesday night, when authorities say the ATV 16 year old was riding made a fast, fatal move into oncoming traffic. They say 18 year old Adam Brewer was driving the four wheeler but survived the crash AND a twenty foot fall over the nearby bridge.
Wyatt and Brewer pulled the ATV out from a field onto the street, that's when the T.H.P. says the car driving south on Highway 101 hit them. Marks now show where the ATV then hit the gaurdrail, ejecting both boys. Wyatt landed on the street while Brewer was thrown all the way down into the ditch.
Thursday, the private school, Sequatchie Valley Academy, where both boys attended was closed, and flowers now hang in memory of Wyatt.
Campbell, says when he heard the news, it took his breath away. "He was a real good person, always did the right thing and never got into too much trouble."
But authorities say trouble hit last night, since neither boys were wearing helmets AND were driving the off road vehicle ON the highway. A mistake Campbell says is wake up call to everyone.
One he says he'll remember every day as he remembers his young friend. Campbell says, "Every day, he'd just come over after school and we'd fool around and everything, he was like a brother to me."
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says no charges have been filed at this time. They say neither the driver or passenger in the SUV were hurt.
