Suspected Bank Robber Busted

  A man police say robbed a bank this morning -- then caused an manhunt through South Pittsburg -- is now behind bars. South Pittsburg Police Chief Dale Higdon tells NewsChannel 9 that  John Floyd Thomas tried to rob the Tri County Bank Friday morning. Police say he pulled into the bank's drive thru, gave the teller his driver's license and a note saying he had a bomb and said he wanted their money. demanding money. The teller noticed a shotgun in Thomas's lap and then he took off. Chief Higdon says, "The worst, that he wants to make himself famous, that he wants to force a shootout with police, a suicide by cop."  There is no word on what led to Thomass' arrest. South Pittsburg police were only able to confirm that he was in police custody. Thomas is facing an attempted aggravated robbery charge as well as several federal charges.
