Black Friday Masses Converge
Comments 0 | Recommend 0One by one, thousands of people grabbed shopping carts with one goal, bargains! Big screen televisions were the rage at the Gunbarrel Target. We caught the first buyer, a couple checking out with one flat screen each. They paid cash and each felt they scored. Ian Franklin ut it this way, "$250 for a 32 inch flat screen, that's really cheap."
With big ticket items rolling out by the cart load, managers saw good signs and even longer lines than last year.
First hour volume surpassed last year's, at this store, taking more than 20 minutes for the throng of people to get inside.
Bill Bolden plopped down $440 for a 40 inch LCD television. He hopes today helps the big picture. Bolden said, "I'm hoping it'll really turns tuff around. With the economy the way it is today, it sure can't hurt." Clearly all these shoppers came for that special Christmas gift, but it takes some patience. The line snaked to the back of the store and along the deepest aisle. Bill Sims of Ringgold, Georgia said he couldn't take it. This morning's early rise was his first and last Black Friday. "I don't think I'll ever do it again," Sims said.
Renee Ferguson was a bit more elated. Ferguson got the last 32 inch flat screen in the store.It's a surprise gift, but not for Christmas. Her son's seventh birthday is around the corner. She said she felt great when she walked up to the last one in the store, "The guy held it up and said this is the last one," Ferguson sais as she smiled with it resting close to her in her shopping cart.
Jillian Harris got caught in this shopping vacuum, but not for electronics. She picked up a high end vacuum clearner for her mother. She's home for the holiday and gives this Black Friday a gold star, all things considered. "Everything's worse in Atlanta right as far as traffic and crowds go. Yeah it's good. It's fun," Harris said.
