UPDATE: Body Found in Water at Camp Jordan

A body is found next to the West Chickamauga Creek in Camp Jordan.  East Ridge Police tell us it is an adult man who they believe had been in the water for about 24 to 36 hours.

FRIDAY UPDATE: Police have identified the body as Barry L. Moody, 22, of Ooltewah.  The investigation is ongoing pending the results of the medical examiners report.

Mickey Cruz was walking along a trail picking up trash Thursday afternoon.  Cruz says he first noticed the body next to a pile of logs.  "I noticed something in the distance and it ended up being a body laying face down in the water."

East Ridge police spokesperson Erik Hopkins says they responded to the scene around 1 p.m.  They taped up the crime scene and brought out the body.  He says they did find identification in the man's wallet, but police are not yet releasing his name.  They did say he is not on the local missing person list.

Police say they are treaing this as a homicide, but did not find any obvious signs of foul play on the body.  The body was taken to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.  Hopkins says, "He's local, but not from East Ridge.  We don't know why he was in the park, whether he was visiting or was swept downstream."
