Child Burned in Afternoon Fire
A five-year-old boy is rushed to the hospital with second degree burns.
It happened at a home at 5909 5th avenue in Chattanooga.
The child was upstairs while his mom and uncle were downstairs. Authorities say the uncle noticed smoke and ran upstairs to find the boy while the mom got a fire extinguisher. The Uncle had to be taken to Erlanger for smoke inhalation while the boy was taken to TC Thompson for his burns. The mom made it out okay.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly and kept it from spreading through the rest of the house. Damages are estimated to be around five-thousand dollars.
Investigators believe the fire started when the boy was playing with a cigarette lighter.
