Dualing Burglaries

Chattanooga police say they solved simultaneous burglaries in progress in different parts of town Thursday.

According to Officer Rebecca Royval, around 11:40 a.m., a Property Crimes Investigator saw several men climbing through the window of a home at 2300 North Chamberlain Avenue. As the investigator approached the men ran.

One suspect, Darius Jamehl Oates, 32, was apprehended quickly. Royval said following a short foot pursuit, the other two suspects, both juveniles, were caught by other patrol officers. All three suspects were charged with Aggravated Burglary.

At basically the exact same time, officers were called to 4619 Montview Drive after neighbors called in about suspicious activity and a possible burglary in progress. A witness said they observed the suspects leaving in a vehicle prior to police arriving and provided a description.

Officers spotted the vehicle in the 3900 block of Rodgers Road where the three men jumped and ran. Police caught Derrick Carnes, 27 and Eddie Collins, 26, after receiving calls from concerned citizens about the suspicious parties running through the area.

They say Derrick Carnes confessed to the Burglary at 4619 Montview Drive and also one at 122 Shawnee Trail. He was charged with two counts of Aggravated Burglary, two counts of theft and one count of vandalism. The stolen property from both residences were recovered. Possible charges still pending on other parties involved.
