Future Treatment for Burned Crash Victims Unclear

July 17, 2008 - 5:52 PM

A car bursts into flames with two men inside. Emergency crews in McMinn County rushed to rescue the men and had to call for the Life Force helicopter because their burns are so severe.

Gary Hall and Scott Baker, were flown to Erlanger early Thursday morning. By the end of the day, both men had been transferred to the burn unit at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

People in the area tell us the car rolled over and then caught fire.

Investigating THP Trooper Guadalupe Soto said, "They're very lucky they didn't get trapped and burned to death in the vehicle."

Neighbors say it was a horrible scene. They say both men were barely recognizable with severe burns all over their bodies.

Trooper Soto said he is investigating the possibility of alcohol being involved in the crash.

He said, "I think alcohol was involved and speed will be a factor definitely."
