Ooltewah Church Offers Help for Unemployed
Ooltewah United Methodist Church is hosting Career Link, a five week series of luncheon seminars designed to offer encouragement and practical support to those who are unemployed in our community. Our Career Link luncheons will feature experts in the field of Human Resources as well as those in the social services sector,
What: Career Link
When: Mondays from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. (March 8 – April 5)

Why: To encourage and support those in our community who are unemployed and are looking for practical help with interviewing skills, resume writing, and community resources.
How: OUMC is pleased to serve as host for Career Link, a five week series of luncheon seminars designed to offer encouragement and practical support to those who are unemployed in our community. Our Career Link luncheons will feature experts in the field of Human Resources as well as those in the social services sector, and will offer sessions covering topics like: interviewing skills, resume writing, internet resources, community educational and training resources, as well as stress management skills. Additionally, we will be offering spiritual encouragement to those who are discouraged in their job search.
Career Link is free and open to all- but advanced reservations are required by calling 238-9216 or online at www.ooltewahumc.org Reservations must be made on the Friday prior to the Monday session.
Speakers include:
• Jerry Thompson - More than 20 years of generalist Human Resources work in demanding, fast-paced environments, both non-union and union. Led teams as a corporate, division and plant staff HR manager, from Fortune 100 to small private companies, in the diverse industries of aerospace, automotive, steel, pet food and printing. BS in Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy and MBA from the University of Southern Maine.
• Tammy McDonough – Coordinator of Chattanooga State’s Project Ahead. Project AHEAD's Mission
Project AHEAD provides necessary tools/resources to help participants become self- sufficient. The program removes obstacles that seemingly prevent them from succeeding in a variety of life settings. Along with enrollment in one of Chattanooga State's many technical or credited programs, participants of Project AHEAD receive hands on training to enhance workplace skills, thus allowing them to attain personal goals and to earn a more sustainable income.
We want to empower individuals by providing a transitional support system while challenging them to grow and meet their personal and professional goals.
• Karen Broetzmann - Masters in Education (M.Ed) in the field of Human Development Counseling from Vanderbilt University. Served as a therapist to teens in crisis and their families at Oasis Center Emergency Shelter in Nashville, TN. Primary therapist at Focus Healthcare here in Chattanooga for inpatient/outpatient women with eating disorders.
• Brent Self - has been working in the HR field for the past 25 years. The past 19 years have been with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Brent is currently the Principal Consultant Recruiting and HR Technology. Undergraduate from Tennessee Temple Major in Psychology, Pursuing Graduate Degree at UTC.
• Tennessee Career Center – A representative from the TN Career Center will share what services and resources they provide to job seekers. In a changing economy, it's not always easy to find a job that matches your skills. But it gets a lot easier when you have a partner who can help you.
