Central Dance Team Can't Perform
Principal Says Routine Inappropriate
Chattanooga Central High School Principal Finley King tells Newschannel 9 that their dance team will not be performing at Friday's game. King says last week's routine was age inappropriate and too provocative. King says he got similiar feedback from parents.
King says he has hired an instructor to work the girls and create a cleaner show. He says the routine had been changed since he watched it rehearsed. King tells us he met with the team and told them they would not be performing at Friday night's game against Howard.
Tori Jones showed us part of the routine that got her Central High School Dance Team banned from performing at Friday night's game. She says Principal Finley King came to the team on Monday, saying last week's performance was too provocative.
We talked to Principal King at the school off camera. He said he had gotten emails complaining that the moves were not age appropriate.
But Jones says they worked on a new, cleaner, routine, all week. Then when they rehearsed that version yesterday in front of Finley, he said it still wasn't polished enough.
He also said that the team could not perform until it was. Jones says, "He said we need to take a break, and we hate that because Howrad is our big dance rival, and we've worked hard on this, and now we can't dance."
Principal King tells us he has hired an instructor to help the girls learn more appropriate moves.
Jones says she's not sure when they will get to dance at a game again.
