FBI and CPD Arrest Eastgate Mall Carjacker
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Knoxville Division of the FBI and Chief Freeman Cooper of the Chattanooga Police Department, announce the arrest of Gary Lebron Clay following the armed carjacking that occurred in Chattanooga, Tennessee on November 01, 2007, in the Eastgate area.
At approximately 7:30 a.m. on November 01, 2007, a lone male approached the victim in the Eastgate Mall parking lot, and displayed a gun and demanded the victim turn over the keys to her car. The subject then displayed this firearm to a bystander and threatened the second citizen with violence. The victim provided the subject with the keys to her car. He was last seen departing the area headed towards Brainerd Road. Approximately one hour after the robbery, the subject attempted to use the victim's credit cards and bank ATM cards at several businesses in the Highway 58 area of Chattanooga. Photographs were obtained and disseminated to local media outlet. Several citizens called in leads and investigators with the Chattanooga Police Fugitive Unit, Chattanooga Housing Authority Police, and the FBI's Safe Streets Task Force were able to locate and apprehend Gary Lebrun Clay, and recover the victim's vehicle on November 13, 2007.
Clay is described as a 21-year-old black male from Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was determined that Clay was wanted for probation violations by the Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole. The investigation is continuing.
