Another City Councilperson Facing Legal Troubles
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Another Chattanooga City council member may be in trouble with the law.
A council member confirms to NewsChannel 9 that a Chattanooga attorney has filed charges against Councilwoman Carol Berz for allegedly falsely claiming she is a lawyer. Attorney Barry Abbott filed the charges with a grievance committee of the state's Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission, saying the district 6 respresentative claimed to be a lawyer during public forums.
But City Councilman Jack Benson says, allegations alone will not affect Berz's position. Unless Berz is found guilty of a crime, or violates the rules set forth in the city charter, her position on the city council is safe.
Berz is the newest member of the Chattanooga City Council, replacing Marti Rutherford who vacated the seat after residency problems arose.
A hearing for Berz is set for June 23rd.
