More Class in Murray County

Students in Murray County will continue spending longer days in class, and shorter school years as a *result* of that. The county's success with saving money that way, has apparently attracted the attention of many other Georgia school systems..

Murray County School Board member Becky Whaley tells NewsChannel 9, the county saved more than half-a-million dollars with the shorter school year.

She says, so far, at least 15 school systems have either called the Murray County School Board to get information about a 160-day school year, or, have sent teams to Murray County to study the possibility of switching to the shorter year..

Because of the savings, Ms. Whaley says the Board of Education voted tonight to continue the shorter school year in Murray County.
