Storm Water Vote Getting Closer

Chattanooga Council members say the City and Blue Ribbon Committee are getting closer to a solution in the storm water rate debate.

Council woman Pam Ladd says we have moved way past the point of talking and a vote is needed. The council must choose between the Mayor's plan, the Blue Ribbon version or somewhere in between. The Blue Ribbon version is roughly $1.9 mllion less and will lower homeowner fees somewhat. It also offers a higher limit for credits.

Mayor Ron Littlefield's plan will not lower the rate for homeowners. But public works director Lee Norris says there is one big problem. Norris elaborated, "I think the credit has something to do with it. There is a discrepancy there. With the Blue Ribbon committee's proposal, there's no way to fund the ongoing activities we have to fund right now. There's not enough revenue."

Councilwoman Ladd says the extended discussion has caused disruption and confusion for the public. Councilman Andrae McGary says a vote is expected next week.
