WASHINGTON (AP) - A U.S. Senate committee will hear testimony about last month's massive coal ash spill in East Tennessee.
The Committee on Environment and Public Works' meeting today will focus on the oversight of the Tennessee Valley Authority, which operates the plant in Kingston where the retention pond failed and dumped ash in people's homes and a nearby river.
The hearing will be led by the committee chairwoman, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.
TVA President and CEO Tom Kilgore is scheduled to speak along with Stephen Smith, the executive director for the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, and William "Howie" Rose, the Roane County director of emergency management services.
