Comprehensive Status Report Released by Volkswagen
Volkwagen officials held a news conference Thursday to provide a comprehensive update on the status of plant construction and hiring. Frank Fischer, chief executive of VW’s Chattanooga operations, said more than 1,000 employees are expected to be onsite early next year.
“It’s absolutely on track,” said Fischer.
300 VW employees are expected to be on board at Volkswagen by the end of 2009. More than 65,000 people have applied for the total expected 2,000 jobs available when the $1 billion plant begins operation in 2011.
VW officials said Thursday they they are also considering the addition of a parts distribution center in the Chattanooga area.
