Budget Issues Bring Talk Of School Consolidation
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Hamilton County School Board retreat ends with news of possible closures and consolidation of some schools.
The news comes after days of discussion of budget and maintenance issues.
On the list for consolidation: Falling Water and Ganns Middle Valley, Alpine Crest, Dupont, and Rivermont Elementary, and Harrison and Hillcrest Elementary.
School Board member Rhonda Thurman says this comes on the heels of further declines in tax revenues. She also adds this should come as no surprise to the school board.
"Anyone that has been paying attention at the state level and federal level, everybody's having to cut their budget, and we're going to have to do the same thing at the school system. I'm not surprised at all," she says.
Thurman says no closures will take place until there are locations to place the students.
