Teen Hurt in Accidental Shooting
A 17-year-old is fighting for his life after being accidentally shot by his hunting friend this afternoon in Walker County.
The incident happened just after 2 p.m. at 218 Thomas Dairy Road in the Trion portion of Walker County.
Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says the when Joseph Coffman and his 15 year old friend got back from hunting, the friend was getting his gun out of the back of a truck. He says the 20 gauge shotgun pinched his hand and he dropped it. As the gun fell, it discharged and hit Coffman in the stomach, Wilson said.
The teen had to be taken by helicopter to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga where he underwent surgery.
Sheriff Wilson says, while the investigation continues, at this point no charges have been filed against the 15-year-old.
