Holiday Cop Calls Included Wayward Cow

Below are a few of the more "unusual" calls Chattanooga police were called to over the Labor Day weekend, as provided by Sgt. Jerri Weary:

Found Cow

Chattanooga Police found an unusual suspect wandering the streets in Tiftonia Sunday night. A single cow was found wandering in and out of traffic along Brown’s Ferry Road and Cummings Highway. Original sightings of the cow were called in to police at 2 PM Sunday but the animal disappeared from public view until 7 PM where it was spotted again running in and out of traffic. Police officers and Chattanooga Zoo personnel corralled the animal to a safe location away from traffic where it was loaded up and taken to the zoo for safe keeping and care. If anyone is missing a cow from that area, please contact the Chattanooga Police Department at 423-698-2525.

Multiple arrest in Emma Wheeler Homes

Police were called to several locations on multiple incidents of girls fighting Sunday evening in the Emma Wheeler Housing Division. In all, three people were arrested; one juvenile for assault, an adult for disorderly conduct and a juvenile for disorderly conduct. The incident stemmed from the assault of a pregnant juvenile living in the area by several females including some adults. Police weren’t able to locate any suspects during the first call but was told that the incident was captured on a cell phone. A second call to the area resulted in the location of the video evidence and the suspect in the assault. The arrests on disorderly conduct occurred after the arrest of the juvenile suspect in the assault.

Club Assault

Police are looking for a man in reference to a robbery and assault that occurred at the Electric Cowboy. Police were called by the victim, Allen George, who stated that he was inside the Electric cowboy when he received a call on his I-Phone. He walked to the bathroom to take the call and when he entered, was jumped from behind. George said that he was struck in the head several times by Jason Pair and fell to the floor. That’s when he said Pair took his phone and left the bathroom. Police weren’t able to locate Pair at the time of the incident.

Domestic Assault

A pregnant woman was taken to the hospital last night with unknown injuries after reporting that she was assaulted by her boyfriend. Police responded to 1769 Southern Street just after midnight on September 6, 2010, where Cureasha Provens told police that she and her boyfriend, Dereke Smartt, had an argument. After the argument, Provens said she went to take a bath to calm down. While in the tub, Smartt came in and punched Provens in the face causing her to fall down in the tub. When she retreated to the bedroom, Smartt followed her and shoved her down on the bed. Friends who were visiting Provens at the time had to pull Smartt off of her. Smartt then fled the home but was later located by police on an adjacent street. Provens’ current condition is unknown.
