Forced Entry Leads To Deadly Shooting
Rhea County investigators are piecing together the facts behind a deadly shooting. Deputies say when they arrived, Carl Bostic was dead, shot inside his ex-girlfriend's home. Sheriff Mike Neal says Bostic broke in.
That house is on Walkertown Road on Dayton Mountain. Early indications point to matters of the heart. And this shooting happened around 5:30 this morning.
Lisa Bragg sat inside a Rhea County patrol car this morning, holding many of the answers detectives want. Sheriff Mike Neal explained the how the pandemonium this morning impacted Bragg. "She's still hysterical, we've not been able to talk to her, she's not calmed down yet," Sheriff Neal said.
Sheriff Neal says around 5:30 this morning Bragg's ex-boyfriend, Carl Bostic, broke into this house where she is staying with her ex-husband. The call first went out as a home invasion.
"It came in, the door was forced entry and the subject was shot and was still in the residence upon our arrival," Sheriff Neal explained. He added two shots were fired and one of those hit the 45 year old Bostic in the chest.
Deputies paid close attention to the door facing where the entry and shooting happened. They also focused on areas above their head just inside the door.
Investigators are now concentrating on who fired the two shots. The family of Bragg's ex-husband lives in adjacent homes. His sister told us off camera that the two of them work at the same job site and came home around midnight.
But Sheriff Neal says when deputies arrived at this home just before sunrise, the homeowner was not home. Investigators are still searching for what prompted this forced entry, the motive and who pulled the trigger.
Detectives are trying to zero in on who was inside the house when Bostic broke in. That's critical information investigators spend the morning establishing. "No we don't (know who all was in the home.) There is other people that live in the house and we're still in the investigation stages," Sheriff Neal said.
At our last check, the Rhea County Sheriff's Department has not charged anyone in this shooting death. Lisa Bragg has been questioned and Sheriff Neal says his detectives are in the process of interviewing other people, particularly those who live inside the home.
