Lawmen Going Door-to-Door to Stop Metal Thieves

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Hamilton County law enforcers are going to be going door-to-door in an effort to curb metal thefts.

Of course copper thefts have become a huge problem. Thieves destroy air conditioning systems, electrical systems and home construction sites while stealing copper and some other precious metals. The thieves in turn resell the stolen "scrap" metal to various dealers.

However a new law was recently passed placing new requirements on scrap metal dealers. The law is intended to make it more difficult for thieves to sell their wares without being tracked.

Today the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, along with Chattanooga City Police, Collegedale Police, and the Soddy Daisy Police Dept will be going door-to-door to all area scrap metal businesses to update them on the new law that goes into effect October 1, 2008.
