UPDATE: Polk County Rock Slide

TDOT engineers say it could be three weeks, or more, before they can get the rock slide cleared on Highway 64 along the Ocoee River.

Engineers say at least 10,000 cubic yards of rock and debris came crashing down on the highway right next to the whitewater put-in.

But that may not be all. More loose boulders are at the top of the slope so crews will have to clear them before work below can begin.

TDOT geologist Vanessa Bateman said Wednesday "it could come down now, it could come down this afternoon, it's not something you want somebody working under the slope."

TDOT entered into an emergency contract with a construction company that specializes in this kind of work. The job will cost at least $1-million.
