Feeding The Hungry In Chattanooga
Hundreds of families get a much needed meal Monday. A national organization works with a local church to bring to help feed the children.
Red Bank Baptist Church contacted families they knew that were going through tough times. Monday afternoon, they formed long lines, as others just walked up... all grateful for the gift of a few free meals.
Hundreds of boxes are dropped off, picked up, and pulled in to Red Bank Baptist Church. Sandra Acker and her two kids were one of the first families in line to accept the donation. "It's pretty tough, we've been without milk and eggs for about 2 weeks, so it's pretty hard, and I just thank God we have a roof over our heads."
And now they've also got a week's worth of food, donated through Feed the Children, for kids just like Stephen and Sarah. Whose mother says sometimes don't even know when their next meal will be. Acker says, "It's kind of heartbreaking you know because you see all these people in need and you yourself are in need."
The folks getting teh donations don't just get a box of food, they also get a box of hygene products and cosmetics, totaling 1200 boxes worth more than 7 thousand dollars.
Pastor Adam Dooley says, "We know that it's not a final solution to many of these families, but we hope it tides them over until they are able to meet some of their needs."
Like Gina Headrick, who carries her supplies out and loads them up. Like Acker, she's recently been laid off, and has two children. "That'll be a week that we don't have to worry about how to eat, so that will help a lot."
Care that means less worry this week for hundreds in Chattanooga, who drive off with a little hope and a lot of help. "It means a lot, I'm really grateful for it."
We did check back with the church Monday afternoon, and they told us they did hand out half of the twelve hundred boxes and will hold another distribution for others in need.
