Remembering Michael
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Around the world, fans have been paying tribute to Jackson's memory. And the tributes are pouring in closer to home, as well.
M.J fans across the world may envy Bernie Miller's thriller past. Platinum & gold plaques in Miller's hallway are from his time as a Sony Records executive. During the late 80's to early 90's, he worked with many artists. But the cream of the crop was meeting the king of pop.
"They wanted me to hear a record so Jackie brought them out and we listened to it in the car," said Miller.
Miller helped Jackson produce his 1987 album "Bad." When Jackson died yesterday at a Los Angeles hospital, Miller joined millions in mourning. As pastor, Miller says he's saddened by Jackson's troubled life.
He says although he rocked the world at age 11, Jackson essentially gave up his childhood so others could enjoy theirs.
Going solo, Jackson moonwalked to the top selling 750 million records worldwide. But appearance changes, and erratic behavior made Jackson a tabloid fixture. Then dangerous accusations left millions speechless.
Jackie told me they didn't have a childhood, they practiced everyday," said Miller. "I think when Michael was 30 he was really a big 7 and when he was 50 he may have been 13."
Keith Landecker has worked at Chattanooga's Power 94 radio station for decades. Landecker never met Michael Jackson in person, but says he didn't have to. Playing Jackson's music was enough.
"You can say what you want to say but its about the music we're celebrating the music," said Landecker. "People don't realize that a talent like Michael comes along only every once in a while."
