Fishbone Coming, Riverfront Nights Winding Down
Riverfront Nights Summer Music Series is winding down with only two more concerts left! To celebrate returning college students, at 8 PM, this Saturday's headliner, Fishbone, will be providing energetic, upbeat entertainment you don't want to miss.
Still a relative secret in the worlds of Pop and Rock music, Fishbone has released numerous innovative, clever, genre-bending, cult-classic albums like 'Fishbone', 'Truth and Soul', 'The Reality of My Surroundings' and 'Psychotic Friends Nuttwerx'. Fishbone lives up to their legend as "the" group to bridge the gap between the funk of George Clinton and the blare of Rush. The classic, original Godfathers of Black Punk/Ska Funk, whose sound helped invent the "Red Hot Chili Peppers" are a perfect soundtrack to welcome home area college students.
Starting off the night at 7 PM, Opposite Box will offer a whirlwind of genre-shifting excitement and mind-bending confusion landing somewhere between the eclecticism of Mr. Bungle and the improvisational styling of The Secret Chiefs 3 and The Mars Volta. These guys harness the power of the "blaxaphone and 'bone combo" to put the smack down on all.
Saturday's "On the Green" event is Bike Night.
All shows are child and pet friendly. Beer sales begin at 6:30 PM. Local opening bands start around 7 and headliners kick into high gear promptly at 8 PM, playing until 10-ish.
Eco-Friendly Businesses & Charities gather at the "green|spaces" tent. This week will spotlight Land Trust for Tennessee.
The 'Dog Pound' under the Pup Tent will feature East Tennessee Alliance for Animals.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- It was a gal named "Lucy" versus a guy named "Hercules" at your local multiplex this weekend. But brains beat brawn. Lucy opens at number-one -- with $44 million. Scarlett Johansson stars as a drug mule -- who gets an accidental overdose of a brain enhancing drug. She's able to harness 100 percent of her mental power in the R-rated thriller. Dwayne Johnson's Hercules only flexes enough box office muscle for a second-place opening with 29 mil. "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" was third. The Rob Reiner directed comedy "And So It Goes" manages just an eighth-place opening weekend. Overall, it's been a chilly summer for Hollywood, with the box office take down by about 20 percent compared to last year. But things could heat up a bit this coming weekend with the opening of the Marvel superheroes movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy."
It was brains versus brawn at the movies this weekend. The AP's Jamie Friar looks at the weekend box office results.
