Lord of the Dance Returning to Chattanooga in 2013
Lord of the Dance created by Michael Flatley returns to Chattanooga’s Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium for one performance only on Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
Tickets go on sale at 10:00am EST on Friday, November 16 online at www.ChattanoogaOnStage.com, at Memorial Auditorium box office, and by phone at (423) 642-TIXS.
Lord of the Dance created by Michael Flatley (LOTD) is the theatrical extravaganza that has helped catapult Irish dancing into the global spotlight. The show features more than 40 dancers who deliver an eloquent and stunning interpretation of one of Ireland’s most famous legends.
Described by the New York Post as "fascinating, rewarding and above all, entertaining," and by the Los Angeles Times as "a showpiece extravaganza," Lord of the Dance is a mesmerizing blend of traditional and modern Celtic music and dance. The story is a classic tale of good vs. evil based on old Irish folklore. It is also a passionate love story expressed through dance. The action is played out over 21 scenes on a grand scale of precision dancing, dramatic music, colorful costumes and state-of-the-art staging and lighting.
LOTD was conceived and choreographed by Creator and Artistic Director Michael Flatley—the American-born world Irish dance champion who originated the role of the Lord and was responsible for creating a new wave of Celtic dance mania. Flatley, who added fresh costumes, a visually stimulating set featuring an LED wall and revised lighting and set designs this year, still oversees all aspects of the production and the numerous LOTD troupes touring internationally.
The show made its debut performance in 1996 and quickly became the most popular touring dance production in history. More than 60 million people worldwide have seen Lord of the Dance in person at sold-out theaters, arenas and stadiums.
LOTD will perform for one night only at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium. All seats are reserved from $27.50 to $47.50 plus convenience fees. Tickets go on sale at 10:00 am EST on Friday, November 16 at Memorial Auditorium box office, online at www.ChattanoogaOnStage.com, and by phone at (423) 642-TIXS.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- It was a gal named "Lucy" versus a guy named "Hercules" at your local multiplex this weekend. But brains beat brawn. Lucy opens at number-one -- with $44 million. Scarlett Johansson stars as a drug mule -- who gets an accidental overdose of a brain enhancing drug. She's able to harness 100 percent of her mental power in the R-rated thriller. Dwayne Johnson's Hercules only flexes enough box office muscle for a second-place opening with 29 mil. "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" was third. The Rob Reiner directed comedy "And So It Goes" manages just an eighth-place opening weekend. Overall, it's been a chilly summer for Hollywood, with the box office take down by about 20 percent compared to last year. But things could heat up a bit this coming weekend with the opening of the Marvel superheroes movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy."
It was brains versus brawn at the movies this weekend. The AP's Jamie Friar looks at the weekend box office results.
