JAMES GANDOLFINI DEAD AT 51

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- James Gandolfini "was a genius." That's what "Sopranos" creator David Chase says. Gandolfini died yesterday while in Rome on vacation. He was 51. No cause of death was given by HBO or Gandolfini's managers. Gandolfini won three Emmys for his role as Tony Soprano on the ground-breaking HBO series. Sopranos co-star Lorraine Bracco says she's "utterly heartbroken." Another Sopranos co-star, musician Steven Van, says the "world has lost one of the greatest actors of all time."

JAMES GANDOLFINI-CAREER

UNDATED (AP) -- We all know James Gandolfini from "The Sopranos," where he played a mobster with issues. But he had a long and varied career including film and Broadway. After earning a degree in communications from Rutgers University in New Jersey, Gandolfini moved to New York. He worked as a bartender, bouncer and nightclub manager. When he was 25, he joined a friend of a friend in an acting class. Gandolfini's first big break was a Broadway production of "A Streetcar Named Desire." He played Steve, one of Stanley Kowalski's poker buddies. His film debut was in Sidney Lumet's "A Stranger Among Us" in 1992. Recently he played the defense secretary in "Zero Dark Thirty." Gandolfini worked again with "Sopranos" creator David Chase for the `60s period drama "Not Fade Away." He played the old-school father of a wannabe rocker.

"DEVIOUS MAIDS" - SUSAN LUCCI

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Susan Lucci doesn't agree with those who feel her new series "Devious Maids" insults Latinas by having them play maids. Lucci says "not one character is a cliche." She says "no one's defined by what they do" or by "how big their bank account is." Lucci's had a maid for 30 years. She says Frieda (FREE'-duh) is her "good right arm." Lucci says there's only one person who gets a full page in her autobiography and that's Frieda. Devious Maids premieres Sunday on Lifetime.

ANNA CHLUMSKY OF "VEEP" WILL HAVE TO CLEAN UP HER ACT WHEN HER FIRST BABY COMES

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Anna Chlumsky will have to clean up her act when her first baby comes this summer. Chlumsky has a potty mouth like her character in "Veep." Chlumsky says swear words often creep into her language. She says it's almost part of her muscle memory. "Veep" is more than a job for Chlumsky. She says it gives her fans one more role to talk about so they don't ask her about playing Vada (VAY'-duh) Sultenfuss in "My Girl" 22 years ago. Veep's season finale is Sunday. HBO has already renewed it for season three.

JOHNNY DEPP ON HIS BREAKUP: "A BIT BUMPY"

NEW YORK (AP) -- Johnny Depp admits that ending his 14-year relationship with Vanessa Paradis (pa-rah-DEES') was "unpleasant." But he tells Rolling Stone "that's the nature of breakups" especially when there are "kiddies involved." Depp and Paradis have two kids. Lily-Rose is 14 and Jack is 11. Depp didn't say what caused the split, but did describe the last few years of their relationship as "a bit bumpy."

MILEY: BOOZE IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN WEED

NEW YORK (AP) -- Miley Cyrus won't come right out and say she gets high, but she tells Rolling Stone that she did a song with Snoop Dogg called "Ashtrays and Heartbreaks," "so people can put it together for themselves." Cyrus says she thinks booze is "way more dangerous" than weed.

DANIEL RADCLIFFE GETTING GOOD REVIEWS FOR HIS LATEST PLAY

LONDON (AP) -- Daniel Radcliffe Radcliffe is getting raves for his role as a disabled Irish dreamer in the play "The Cripple of Inishmanaan." London's Guardian calls Radcliffe "a fine stage actor with a gift for playing social outsiders." The Times of London praises his "melancholy intensity and resolve." Radcliffe tells the London Evening Standard that two of his dream roles are Iggy Pop and Tom Lehrer (LEER'-ehr).
