Wings Over North Georgia Airshow Coming to Rome
JLC AirShow Management announced Monday that the United States Army Silver Wings Parachute Demonstration Team, Red Eagle Air Sports, and Liberty Jump Team have been added to the 2012 Wings Over North Georgia Air Show lineup. The show will feature the Canadian Forces Snowbirds (above) and Black Diamond Jet Teams and will take place at Richard B. Russell (Tower Field) Regional Airport in Rome, Georgia September 28 – 30.  In addition to the air show, the Smoke-n-Thunder Barbeque Classic™ and Smoke-n-Thunder Auto Show™ will also take place.

The United States Army Silver Wings Parachute Demonstration Team represents the professionalism and dedication of the specially trained Soldiers of the United States Army Infantry Center and Schools, to include Airborne, Pathfinders and the Army elite Rangers. The team has 12 parachute jumpers and travels five ground crew members. Each Silver Wings team member has averaged between 200 and 2,500 free fall jumps and free falls for close to two miles at approximately 120 miles per hour during their jumps. Their parachutes are considered flexible wings gliders, designed for maneuverability and prevision. The team is stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia.

The Red Eagle Air Sports Team, a two-ship formation aerobatic team, will soar through North Georgia’s skies during the show, captivating audiences with its complex maneuvers.  The team displays a singular blend of low-level precision formation and solo aerobatics with fascinating transitions.  Flying the Pitts S2C and one-of-a-kind Talon Eagle, pilots Billy Werth and Dan McClung demonstrate the awesome power of these highly-modified aerobatic aircraft.

McClung is a retired U.S. Navy 767 Captain and has accumulated more than 23,000 flight hours. He was appointed as an Air Show Competency Evaluator by the International Council of Air Shows. Werth is a Major in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and flies KC-135 Stratotankers.

The Liberty Jump Team will gracefully fall through the skies showing off its World War II-style jumps. The team’s mission is to perpetuate the remembrance of the brave men and women of WWII and all other war veterans. Primarily consisting of active duty, retired or reserve U.S. and foreign military, the Liberty Jump Team utilizes vintage C-47s which were used to carry U.S. paratroopers for the D-Day landings in WWII. The commemorative jump team not only performs at air shows, but also serves as jump instructors for new jumpers.

“This lineup just keeps getting bigger, better, and more diverse,” said John Cowman, President of JLC AirShow Management. “We have an international military jet team, a civilian jet team, outstanding aerobatic performers and two jump teams!”

Advance purchase tickets are now on sale at www.WingsOverNorthGeorgia.com along with a current list of performers and attractions. The show can also be found on Facebook. Wings Over North Georgia Airshow Coming to Rome

KANYE WEST - DONALD TRUMP

NEW YORK (AP) -- Donald Trump says he and Kanye West are members of a mutual admiration society. He says West always says nice things about him -- so he won't ever say anything bad about the rapper. The GOP front-runner was asked about West because the rap star said during his stem-winder at the VMAs that he wants to run for president in 2020. And Trump says he'd' never say anything bad about West because quoting The Donald here -- "he loves Trump." Trump suggests the two of them might cross swords if he wins the White House and West follows through with his plan to run in 2020. But for now, Trump says he and West appreciate each other.

CHIWETEL EJIOFOR - ROLE-ING AFTER OSCAR NOD

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Chiwetel Ejiofor (CHOO'-ih-tehl EHJ'-ee-oh-for) says he hasn't been more selective about the roles he considers taking -- now that he's been nominated for an Oscar. That's because he says, he has been picky about the parts he does all along. He says he's always on the lookout for quality material to do. And since he has always been selective about what he will do as an actor, Ejiofor doesn't think the number of scripts that have come his way has increased.

NEW COMICS ADDED TO "THE DAILY SHOW"

NEW YORK (AP) -- In baseball, teams are able to add players to their roster in September for the stretch run. And as "The Daily Show" prepares to start its run under new host Trevor Noah, Comedy Central is strengthening the show's bench. The network has hired on three new comedians for the show. They are Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic and Roy Wood Jr. They join holdovers from the Jon Stewart era Jordan Klepper, Hasan Minhaj, Jessica Williams, Lewis Black, John Hodgman, Al Madrigal, Aasif Mandvi and Kristen Schaal. Noah starts as host of the show Sept. 28.

OITNB - LABELING

NEW YORK (AP) -- The creator of "Orange Is the New Black" isn't crazy about the idea of putting the series into a specific category. Jenji Kohan says slapping a label like comedy, drama or "dramedy" on the show is frustrating. She says the category shouldn't matter -- because the only question that should be asked of a show is: "Are we doing good work or not." The show, in its third season on Netflix, is nominated for outstanding drama series at this year's Emmys. Last year, it competed for the Emmy for outstanding comedy series.

VIDEO GAME EDITED TO REMOVE SLAVE SHIP SCENES

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The makers of an educational video game have learned an important lesson: it's not a good idea to include a scene depicting slaves being packed into a ship. The creators of the game "Playing History: Slave Trade" have removed a level that featured slave characters being dropped into a ship similar to the way multi-hued blocks are dropped into place in the game "Tetris." The game makers insist that the scene was included "to underline the point of how inhumane slavery was." And it says the offensive segment was only "a small 15-second part of the game."

BILL COSBY'S NAME REMOVED FROM UNIVERSITY FILM WORKSHOP

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York University has become the latest school that have put some distance between it and Bill Cosby. The school is removing the comedian's name from a popular film workshop for high school students. A school spokesman says the move was made "in light of recent events." Ohio's Central State University has removed Cosby's name from its Mass Communications Center. All of this comes after dozens of women have gone public with claims that Cosby sexually assaulted them. Cosby has never been charged with a crime.

MEL GIBSON - NO CHARGES IN AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY (AP) -- Mel Gibson has come out on top of a potential legal issue down under. Authorities in Australia have decided not to charge the actor over an incident that took place last month. A photographer claimed the Oscar-winning director shoved and abused him when he snapped pictures of Gibson and his new girlfriend in Sydney last month. Police say the matter was "investigated thoroughly" -- and based on the evidence gathered, no formal action will be taken. Gibson's publicity firm says the actor has denied the allegations from the start and is "now satisfied" that the investigation lets him off the hook.
