Monday's occassionally rainy skies didn't put a damper on the beginning of shooting for the movie "42."  The baseball movie is about Jackie Robinson, the first black major league baseball player, and Chattanooga's Engel Stadium is playing a big role, along with hundreds of extras.

It felt just like a real baseball game inside Engel Stadium on Monday.  But then came the Hollywood cues, and the fake actors, five thousand dummies lining the stands.  Cameras also line the infield, while huge green walls line the outfield, so that special effects can be added during editing.

In the stands are people like Angeline Lassiter from Rossville.  "I'm a huge baseball fan, been a baseball fan my whole life and when I found out about this jackie robinson movie I just had to be a part of it."

Lassister took 16 vacation days from work to make sure she was sitting in the stands during every day of filming in every city.  "I was in AL last week, I'll be in all the Chattanooga shoots and then I will also be in Macon."

Monday, the extras got to see a big scene, when number 42, Jackie Robinson, is booed as he runs onto the field on what was actually Ebbetts Field in Brooklyn, then gets a warm welcome from his teammate.  Media Coordinator Ernie Nalik says, "Pee Wee Reese goes over and puts his arm around Jackie Robinson in front of the entire crowd and it stills them, they have never seen this before, they've never seen a white man touch a black man on a baseball field."

Nalik tells us it's one of many important scenes shot in Chattanooga.  "When you come into an environment like this, the stadium becomes a character, it's playing ebbetts field, it almost come alive."

If you would like to be a part of the filming, it's not too late.  You can register to be an extra online at www.beinthemovie42.com.  Production tells us they need to fill 500 seats each day with local faces.  You can also call 1-800-913-8563 for more information.

If you're wondering when the movie's big star Harrison Ford will be in town, we're told it's at the end of the 12 day shoot in Chattanooga.

"FURIOUS 7" WINS BOX OFFICE RACE

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "Furious 7" has again outpaced the competition in the box office race. The movie took in $29.1 million over the weekend -- taking the victory lap in its third straight weekend. But the street-race saga had competition. "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" finished a close second, with $24 million. And while that wasn't enough to capture the top spot, it was almost enough to recoup its $30 million production cost in its first week, alone. Number three over the weekend was "Unfriended." The movie only cost $1 million to make -- so it ends up recouping its initial outlay 16 times over.

"Furious 7" is still the movie to beat -- as the AP's Jamie Friar reports.

BOBBY BROWN DESCRIBES DAUGHTER AS "AWAKE"

ATLANTA (AP) -- It isn't clear whether it's an official medical update -- or hopeful hyperbole. But what Bobby Brown told concertgoers Saturday night made the crowd scream. Brown said his daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown is awake -- and was "watching" him. The statement is the first Bobby Brown has made publicly about his daughter since she was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub at her Georgia home nearly three months ago. All the family has said since -- was that the 21-year-old daughter of Brown and the late Whitney Houston was "fighting for her life."

SUGE KNIGHT - EVIDENCE AND TRIAL

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- In a criminal trial, there's a big difference between getting a case to a jury -- and getting the jury to convict. When a judge ruled last week that Suge (SHUG) Knight should stand trial for murder and attempted murder, it didn't mean the case is a slam dunk for the prosecution. Take as an example the video of the January incident, in which Knight runs over two men, killing one. The clip also shows the survivor confronting Knight before Knight runs the two men over, supporting the defense's claim of self-defense. The survivor first blamed Knight -- but has since said he doesn't want to be a snitch.

AP Entertainment Editor Oscar Wells Gabriel reports that when Suge Knight goes to trial, he won't be the only person involved with a shady past.

GAME OF THRONES COLLEGE COURSE

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) -- Some watch "Game of Thrones" for thrills. But some of those watching the HBO series will do it for grades. Northern Illinois University is offering a course this semester on the popular series -- and students can get honors credit. One of the co-professors says demand for the course was so great, available seats were filled in about an hour.

AP Entertainment Editor Oscar Wells Gabriel reports a college course on "Game of Thrones" is proving almost as popular as the HBO TV series itself.

BEN AFFLECK - "FINDING YOUR ROOTS"

BOSTON (AP) -- So what happens when a celebrity on "Finding Your Roots" doesn't like what's found in those roots? In the case of Ben Affleck, the actor asked the PBS documentary to cut the revelation that he had a slave-owning ancestor -- and producers did. Word of the request was in the trove of emails leaked from Sony and published online by WikiLeaks. In separate statements, PBS and host-historian Henry Louis Gates say they didn't censor the slave-owning past of Affleck's family.

BEN POWERS - OBIT

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) -- An actor who was in the old-school TV show "Good Times" has died. Alton "Ben" Powers was the football player husband of Thelma Evans in the sitcom about a black family trying to make its way out of the Chicago housing projects. A funeral home in New Bedford, Massachusetts says Powers died Apr. 6 -- but gave no other details. Besides his work on "Good Times" -- Powers was in "Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer," "Gimmie a Break," "The Greatest American Hero" and "Laverne & Shirley."

PEABODY AWARDS

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "Jane the Virgin" and "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" are among the winners in the first round of Peabody Awards. The CW sitcom and the HBO news-as-comedy show will get their honors at a ceremony next month. Other winners include "The Americans," "Fargo" and "The Honorable Woman."
