Volkswagen Chattanooga to Host Sunday Symphony Series
Volkswagen Chattanooga announced today the creation of a new partnership with the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera that will offer a five-concert series to be held on Sunday afternoons at the Volkswagen Conference Center.

The series will begin in September 2012 and will continue through April 2013.

“Volkswagen Chattanooga has been a supporter of the arts from the very start and we are pleased to expand our relationship by creating the Volkswagen Sunday Symphony Series,” said Hans-Herbert Jagla, EVP Human Resources at Volkswagen Chattanooga. “We are excited to be able to offer these concerts to our employees at a discounted rate, but also hope the community at large will enjoy this new opportunity to experience live music,” Jagla said.

The concerts will consist of three Masterworks and one Pops, both repeated from performances at the Tivoli Theatre. In addition, one Light Classics concert will be developed exclusively for the Volkswagen concert series. Individual tickets will be priced at $25.00 and $15.00 for Volkswagen employees.

"We are thrilled to start this new concert series and to deepen our friendship and partnership with Volkswagen Chattanooga. It is an honor for us to perform at the beautiful Volkswagen Chattanooga facility and to share wonderful music in the community,” said Kayoko Dan, Music Director and Conductor of the symphony. “We greatly appreciate Volkswagen Chattanooga for this generous offer and for the opportunity to touch more lives through beautiful music."

All concerts will be held at the Volkswagen Conference Center beginning at 3 p.m. Children will be admitted free. Tickets will be available at the door beginning at 2 p.m., by phone at (423) 267-8583, or online at www.chattcso.org.

BOX OFFICE

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The "Avengers" rule. "Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens at number-one this weekend. The Avengers sequel takes in a staggering $187.7 million. That's the second best opening ever, topped only by the first Avengers movie in 2012. Although Ultron was the only new film in wide release this weekend, it had some significant small screen competition. Some people may have stayed home to watch the Kentucky Derby, the NBA playoffs, or the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fight. The "Age of Adaline" was a distant second this weekend, followed by "Furious 7," which had spent four weekends at number-one.

The competition is no match for the "Avengers" -- as the AP's Jamie Friar reports.

BRUCE JENNER - LAWSUIT

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A week after telling the world he's becoming a woman, Bruce Jenner is back in the news -- because of a fatal car wreck he was involved in back in February. The stepchildren of the woman killed in the accident have filed a wrongful death suit. Authorities in Los Angeles say Jenner's SUV struck a car driven by Kim Howe, pushing it into oncoming traffic. She died at the scene. The lawsuit doesn't say how much the plaintiffs are seeking, but they say the family suffered "great losses." Jenner hasn't been charged in the case, but an investigation is continuing.

AP Entertainment Editor Oscar Wells Gabriel reports Bruce Jenner is being sued over a fatal car accident in February.

NBC PLANS NEW DRAMAS

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- NBC's headquarters are in New York City. But its programmers seem fairly infatuated with Chicago. The network is expanding the number of shows with the Windy City as a backdrop. "Chicago Med" is the latest, joining "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago P.D." The new show is set in a hospital emergency room -- and will star Oliver Platt and S. Epatha Merkerson.

BARACK OBAMA - DAVID LETTERMAN

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Last week, first lady Michelle Obama was on "Late Show" with David Letterman. Now, it's the president's turn. Barack Obama will be on tonight, for his third time as president and eighth time overall. Letterman is retiring later this month. Between now and then, he will be stocking his couch with as many big-name guests as he can. Letterman's final show will be May 20.

MDA TO END LABOR DAY TELETHON

NEW YORK (AP) -- In its last two years it was more of a mini-thon than a telethon. And now, the Muscular Dystrophy Association is pulling the plug on its annual Labor Day weekend altogether. The MDA says the way people watch TV these days -- and make donations to charities -- spells the end to telethons. The show used to run 21 hours over the holiday weekend. But in the past two years since longtime host Jerry Lewis was replaced, the show was only two hours long.
