New Homeless Health Care Clinic Set to Open November 4
Hamilton County officials will celebrate the grand opening of the county’s new Homeless Health Care Center (HHCC) Nov. 4th. The HHCC will be at 730 E. 11th St. in Chattanooga. The new facility allows staff to provide services in a more efficient and safe manner to a diverse population. Services include primary care, behavioral health, dental, and social services.
The new HHCC is located across the street and one block east of the previous building, which is more than 50 years old.
“The new facility will allow us to help more people gain their independence. There has been an increase in demand for services provided by the health center, specifically from families with children,” said Karen Guinn, HHCC Director.
The facility was designed by Artech Design Group and built by DBS Corporation. The Health Department has operated the Center in its former location for more than 21 years. The new facility remains adjacent to the Community Kitchen, a thrift store, and a transitional housing unit. The area has been a community and service center for homeless people for more than 25 years.
Construction began in January 2013 and was recently completed. Staff will begin seeing clients on November 4. The County was awarded a competitive federal grant of $2.7 million to fund the project and the City of Chattanooga provided the land.
