Blood Assurance is issuing a public appeal for O positive, O negative, A negative and B negative donations.
Officials say that Tte summer months often mean more accidents and trauma, making the need for blood donations even more critical.
In an e-mailed release spokesperson Linda Hisey said, "The regional blood center donations are down due to the normal summer shortages. The Fourth of July holiday is fast approaching and the regional blood center is asking the communities to help increase the blood inventory for the patients in our area."
Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds.
Donors are encouraged to eat a good meal and drink plenty of water prior to donating. To find out if you are eligible to donate, please call 1-800-962-0628 or visit www.bloodassurance.org.
