Price of Freedom - Reliving Combat Opens Emotional Wounds

James Sharpe fought in some of the most written about battles in World War II.  Sharpe was at The Liberation of Paris, The Battle of the Bulge, and The Normandy Invasion as well as several battles during his 31 months of combat.


Mr. Sharpe was with the third wave of troops to hit Omaha beach.


"I was lucky going in when I did,” Mr. Sharpe said. 


Mr. Sharpe turned twenty years old at Hurtgen Forest.


"It was past zero a majority of the time there," Mr. Sharpe said.


Mr. Sharpe came back to Dayton when he was twenty-two.  He'll be eighty-nine soon.


"It's hard to believe going through it all and not getting boogered up, crippled up, or stepping on a landmine,” Sharpe said.  “It's fantastic to do that much and not get crippled up."


 Mr. Sharpe is proud of his service and he's proud of the flag he fought for.


"Most of all I'm an American, 125%.  I love the American country, and I think everybody should that lives here," Mr.  Sharpe said.
