Trion, Ga. at peak of flooding

Chattooga Co. Qualifies for Federal Flood Assistance

Associated Press

Chattooga County, Ga. has now been added to the counties qualified to receive federal assistance following the recent floods.

Vice President Joe Biden is pledging the federal government's support to Georgia residents displaced by severe storms that swept through the region earlier this week.

Biden was in metro Atlanta today to survey flood damage and meet with residents at a Red Cross shelter in Marietta. He says seven Georgia counties now qualify for federal assistance.

The counties are: Carroll, Cherokee, Cobb, Douglas, Paulding, Stephens and Chattooga.

Meanwhile, the region is bracing for another round of rain. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for the metro Atlanta area.

At least 9 deaths in Georgia and one in Alabama are blamed on the severe storms.
