Family of 7 Escapes Late Night Fire

Hamilton County Emergency Services

A family of seven will be staying with friends tonight after losing everything to a fire at their residence.

A neighbor called 911, reporting a fire at 3216 Joselin Street in Red Bank. The Red Bank Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene within minutes, reporting fire showing on the back side of the duplex, and coming through the attic.

Firefighters immediately conducted a quick search of the residence and extinguished the fire to alleviate the fire from spreading to the adjacent side of the duplex.

Red Bank fire officials requested a mutual aid response to assist them. Walden's Ridge Emergency Services, Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Soddy-Daisy Fire Department responded to Joselin Street.  Chattanoga-Hamilton County Rescue responded as well for rehab.

The renters, David and Rebecca Ashley, were able to react quickly and get all five children and four dogs out of the house. No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries.

The Ashley family lost most of their valuables and will have to find a new residence. The American Red Cross responded to the scene and will be assisting the Ashley family.

According to Red Bank fire officials, the damages are estimated at $200,000. The A side (Ashley residence side) is a total loss. The B side of the duplex sustained water and smoke damage.

It's unknown if the owner of the duplex was insured, and the Ashley family did not have renter's insurance.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by Red Bank Fire Department.
