Flash Flooding in Red Bank Causes Temporary Evaucations

Heavy overnight rains caused flash flooding at numerous locations in Chattanooga and Hamilton County, including a mobile home park on Dayton Boulevard, which is across the street from Chattanooga Fire Station 22. Around 3:00 a.m. today, residents of the Fair Meadows Estates started showing up at the fire station. Captain Vance Woodward said roughly ten people evacuated on their own and drove their private vehicles to the fire station to keep them from being damaged by the floodwaters.

One of the evacuees, Cheryl Pruett, said a fellow resident and former manager of the complex went from trailer to trailer to alert his neighbors of the rising floodwaters, which got up to roughly four feet deep. As a precaution, Chattanooga firefighters called for boats with Volunteer State Water Rescue, but by the time they arrived, it was clear that the floodwaters were receding. Initial reports from the residents showed that the water never got into their homes, but it was close. No injuries were reported.

The residents said the floodwaters came from what is called the 9 Mile Creek. They said they always get nervous and watch the creek carefully when heavy rains occur.
