House Fire Displaces Family of 10

A fire leaves a family of 10 homeless. Flames ripped through a home on 45th street around seven Thursday night.

Floyd Brooks was working outside his home at 2601 East 45th Street when his son told him their house was on fire. He ran back in and saw flames coming from a bed and air conditioner. Brooks got a garden hose to put it out, but the fire was too strong. He suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation. Brooks' eight kids, wife, and seven dogs are all OK. However, the family's four kittens died in the fire and lost everything else.

"I just got outta jail. I'm on house arrest. I ain't been out but a week, and this happens," said Brooks. "Wondering where I'm gonna go and how am I gonna get the kids a place to live and clothes on their back?"

The Red Cross is helping the family get back on their feet. The cause is under investigation.
